When we think of Hollywood, we think of movies.
We think of red carpet premiers. We think of big productions, and we think of movies star with their charming, perfect smiles.
Yes, the “Hollywood Smile” is a thing, but it’s not the exclusive property of people who spend their working days in front of cameras and being interviewed by celebrity magazines.
You can have a “perfect” smile, too, and it may be easier to get than you know.
If you live in or near Ridgecrest, CA, all you have to do is call The Dentist House and tell us that you are interested in getting veneers.
From there, we can schedule a consultation to find out if this is the right solution for you.
Inspired By The Movies
Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but the movies are part of the reason that veneers came to be.
Back in 1928, dentist Charles Pincus was commissioned to make a set of false teeth for an actor to where during a movie. While those were intended to be temporary, it did get Dr. Pincus to thinking about a more permanent way to change the appearance of his patient’s teeth.
It took a few years to complete the concept, but in 1937, he created a set of acrylic veneers. These did not work so great. They were held in place by denture adhesives, which is to say, they were far from permanent.
Even so, that effort got other people thinking along similar lines. Decades of research and development lead to more natural-looking material and stronger bonding materials.
Today, patients can get veneers that will last for decades with proper care and maintenance.
Kinds Of Veneers
All dental veneers work in similar ways. They are bonded to the front of your teeth, sort of like how false fingernails are bonded to your fingers.
When they are securely in place, they can completely transform the appearance of your smile. From our experience, this gives many patients a confidence boost.
That, more than the physical changes to their smiles, is what makes cosmetic dentistry worth it to us.
We offer both porcelain and no-prep veneers at our office. The process for getting each is similar, with one key difference.
Porcelain veneers are thicker, so we usually need to remove some of the enamel from your teeth to create space for these veneers.
After the enamel is removed, we make an impression of your teeth. The lab uses this impression to craft a set of veneers that are custom-fitted for your mouth.
When they are ready, we verify that they are fitted properly and bond them to your teeth.
No-prep veneers are made of a composite material. Since they are thinner, we usually don’t have to remove any enamel from your teeth before making your impression. Other that, the process is pretty much the same.
Why Do People Get Veneers?
The general reasons are the same. People don’t like their smile for one or more reasons, and the want it to look different. In many cases, veneers are the fastest and most effective way to make the changes that they want to see.
As far as specifics, there are a lot of things that veneers can do.
People with crooked or crowded teeth often prefer to have teeth that are straight and parallel to one another.
Orthodontic treatments to fix those conditions can take years to complete. In contrast, you may be able to get a set of veneers in a few weeks that will give you the appearance of a straight smile.
Gaps between teeth are another concern that is frequently fixed with orthodontic care. A good set of veneers can close that space as well.
Tooth discoloration is another common concern that we hear from our patients. You could have stains on your teeth or your teeth may be discolored because of trauma, illness, or a side effect of medication.
Veneers can make your teeth as white and as bright as you want them to get.
What if your teeth have been damaged in some way? Chipped and worn down teeth can be made to look whole once again when you get your veneers.
While fixing any of these issues is nice, it’s even better knowing that you can fix two more problems with a single solution.
Keep Your Smile Looking Great
If you do get veneers, we want to help you keep them looking nice for as long as possible. This is why we also provide our patients with a nightguard to protect their veneers while they are sleeping.
