Get Rid of Your Gummy Smile!
If you are tired of being unhappy with your gums when looking at your smile, The Dentist House can help. Sometimes referred to as gum recontouring, gum reshaping is a great way to enhance your smile while helping you feel comfortable about yourself.
What Is Gum Reshaping?
Gum reshaping is a cosmetic treatment procedure that is used to correct the look of your gums and teeth. Most often, patients opt for this type of procedure when they have what appears to be a gummy smile.
The term gummy smile is used to describe gums that cover too much of the teeth, which affects the way a person feels about their smile. Gummy smiles are related to genetics, high blood pressure, and other medical conditions. Gum reshaping services are performed for cosmetic and aesthetic pleasure and not because a gummy smile is dangerous in any way.
We do sometimes need to remove gums in order to prepare your teeth for another procedure, like the placement of veneers or crowns.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
If you believe you need to have gum reshaping services performed, we will invite you in for a consultation. At the consultation, you and Dr. Mamaliger will go over all of the benefits and risks of the procedure, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions or address your concerns. Dr. Mamaliger will ask you what you want to accomplish with the procedure to ensure it is the right one for you.
Once it is determined that you are a good candidate, Dr. Mamaliger will schedule the procedure for you. On the day of your appointment, you will come in and Dr. Mamaliger will prep you for the procedure. He will begin by drawing a line on your gums to show you where the new gum line will be. You can discuss the line and whether you like where it is located or not.
Dr. Mamaliger will explain everything that is going to happen, and you will have a local anesthetic applied to numb the area. The procedure will then be performed, your gums reshaped, and the gum line moved.
The Dentist House uses soft-tissue lasers to perform the gum reshaping procedure. This means that there will be no metal instruments or stitching necessary during your procedure! The laser actually leads to far less discomfort, swelling, bleeding, and risk of infection!
